The Valley of the Platani River

Cianciana , located on the southern slope of Mount Calvario, from where it overlooks the beautiful surrounding lands.

The area around Cianciana allows you to enjoy exciting views of the Platani River Valley, where woods, wheat fields and vineyards alternate in a play of colours.

In the lower areas of the valley, Mediterranean scrub dominates, while the high altitude areas are home to woods with tall trees, true green lungs. The paths that intertwine in the valley are the scene of long walks undertaken by trekking enthusiasts who, in their hiking expeditions, in unbeaten areas and far from communication roads, seek absolutely direct contact with nature.

The valley also allows the practice of bird-watching , or a recreational and sporting activity that consists in observing birds in their natural environment. Thus, if you are lucky, you can also spot the rare, for beauty and number of specimens, Black-winged Stilt , a splendid marsh bird with a slender body, very long legs and a thin, straight beak.

The particular geological nature of the territory, rich in water, has allowed the formation of numerous caves with the possibility for speleologists to undertake guided itineraries useful for the study of the origins of the caves and their physical, morphological and biophysical characteristics.
